Second Life has reached its 15th Birthday this year, it's pretty hard to believe how long this successful virtual world has been around and people just love it, especially as the avatars become more realistic and the SL landscapes too have evolved into a good replica of our beautiful planet's flora and fauna. You have to wonder what SL will look like in another couple of years, Linden Labs give the creators new technology and the creators and designers simply show their brilliance with their new ideas and masterpieces for digital living.
The SL15B party is underway and I'm going to explore as much of it as I can over the next few days. When I logged in the other day I caught an interesting interview by Saffia Widdershins of Prim Perfect and Designing Worlds fame. She was talking to Xiola Linden who told us that the SL15B theme for this year is 'Crystal' (see the SL Linden blog which states "it seemed the perfect theme for a year in which we want to reflect on Second Life’s incredible history, embrace its thriving present, and look forward to its exciting future.") And like Xiola said, you will often find Crystals in the Linden Realms in SL. Xiola said that one of her favourite things about SL is shopping and she explained that she has to shop for her other avatars too. She said the other Lindens quite often used alternative avatars to explore, so you never know if you are in the presence of a Linden as you go on your SL travels. Saffia will be interviewing some more Lindens, so keep an eye out for the shows in the Fascinate sim, see the Destination Guide for details.
I'm sorry I haven't been around in Second Life much lately, sometimes real life gets in the way and with the political changes throughout Europe and the rest of the world, it's easy to be distracted by the real, and sometimes fake news that we are being presented with every day. SL has always been a good place to escape to if the real world looks a bit depressing, or you want to find out what your friends all around the world think about what's happening in real life. This is another reason SL plays a great part in people's lives, you can be whatever you want to be in your second life, and if you just want to have fun and have a good time you will meet many like minded people!
HAPPY 15TH BIRTHDAY SECOND LIFE AND WELL DONE ALL THOSE LINDENS WHO KEEP THE PARTY GOING FOR US ALL!
