Burning Man is always a great festival in Second Life and at the moment you can visit Burn2 where you will find 'DaVinci's Workshop'. It's all about Leonardo da Vinci, my favourite 15th Century Old Master and Inventor, and I would say Wizard too! What an astonishing man he must have been. Best known perhaps for his beautiful paintings, including the Last Supper and the Mona Lisa, Da Vinci's drawings and literature shows that he was also the genius of invention and his knowledge about nature and technology put him far ahead of his fellow artists of the era. BBC History tells us "He wrote and drew on subjects including geology, anatomy (which he studied in order to paint the human form more accurately), flight, gravity and optics, often flitting from subject to subject on a single page, and writing in left-handed mirror script. He 'invented' the bicycle, airplane, helicopter, and parachute some 500 years ahead of their time."
So I took a tour of Burn2, Da Vinci's Workshop and the brilliant creative builders of Second Life have brought some of Da Vinci's machines to life. There's even a massive sculpture of the artist's head, it's very well done. One exhibit was all about the Da Vinci Code with some very interesting stuff about Jesus and Mary Magdeline. There's even a model of the 'All Seeing Eye' often associated with the Free Masons and the Illuminati. Then to quote Da Vinci himself "There are three classes of people: those who see. Those who see when they are shown. Those who do not see.” Intriguing to say the least, Da Vinci, had he been alive today, would have most probably quoted the same phrase, truly a man before his time. Pop over to see Da Vinci's Workshop, it closes on the 23rd October, so don't delay.
