The Lounge Club Celebrated Mardi Gras 2016 In Style

Mardi Gras is a very colourful event, so it's ideal to celebrate it in Second Life as well as in  real life, as people just love dressing up.  Tonight the Lounge Jazz Club put on a spectacular Mardi Gras event. Owner Xaphyre Ansar had made the club look fantastic and the costumes were amazing!  The groovy music was supplied by dj Tessa in that New Orleans style Jazz that added a wonderful atmosphere to the night.  The Lounge bar is a very classy venue, especially for the lovers of real jazz and the evening was a lot of fun!

What is the Mardi Gras?
I grew up in London where traditionally, every February we celebrated Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday to give it its proper name.  I never realised it had anything to do with Mardi Gras before today.  Apparently its also called Fat Tuesday.  Wicki says it "refers to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (Three King's Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", reflecting the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season."  So in England we celebrate Shrove Tuesday by cooking pancakes, usually with lemon juice and sugar to taste.  The Telegraph says " Traditionally, pancakes were eaten on this day to use up rich, indulgent foods like eggs and milk before the 40-day fasting season of Lent began. But although it is enshrined in Christian tradition, it is believed that Pancake Day might originate in a pagan holiday, when eating warm, round pancakes - symbolising the sun - was a way of celebrating the arrival of spring."  I guess many of us  just take these traditions for granted without really looking into the history of things. I think the Mardi Gras is a brilliant way of celebrating, a happy and joyous occasion.
