Wrap up warm, get your sparklers ready and go out and stand around the blazing bonfire, while you watch the fireworks filling the skies with dazzling bursts of colour and listen to the loud bangs and whizzes as the rockets explode high above your head. Yes it's that time of year again, November 5th, Bonfire Night! It was only coming into Second Life that I realised that not everyone around the world had heard of Bonfire Night, one of Britain's traditions, which celebrates a dark time in our history, full of gunpowder, treason and plot! Here's betting that a few Brits would also like to know more about the night that Guy Fawkes, one of a team of plotters, planned to blow up Parliament back in 1605 by setting off 36 barrels of gunpowder in the cellar below the Houses of Parliament.
The actual organiser of the failed attempt at destroying the Houses of Parliament was Roman Catholic activist Robert Catesby and his gang of men, Guy Fawkes, Thomas Bates, Robert and Thomas Wintour, Thomas Percy, Christopher and John Wright, Francis Tresham, Everard Digby, Ambrose Rookwood, Robert Keyes, Hugh Owen and John Grant. If you want to know the full story of this legendary tale go over to Kat Kassner and Loredo Lowtide's sim where there is a brilliant exhibition which takes you through each stage of the plot.
In the meantime stay safe this Bonfire Night and keep those pets indoors as many are terrified of all the noise and bright lights.
