London Chamber of Commerce and Industry in SL

If you ever wondered if real life institutions take the platform of SL seriously you’ve only got to look around to see who is actually in the virtual world. One organisation that came as a surprise to me though, was the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), which I have just found in the Blue Horizon sim. Basically the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a non-profiting making body that supports the trading community of London in real life, giving advice and backing for its members. You can join the LCCI news group in-world to be kept up to date with what is going on and also get links to their web pages.

It all started back in the Cornhill area of the City of London in 1782 (the City is a square mile inside the London capital). The idea was to open a centre for trade people to get assistance, information and advice and for them to be able to consult someone if they were having problems. The members had to pay the princely sum of three guineas, which was a lot of money in those days! Ninety-nine years later the London Chamber was established in Mansion House, also in the City, on the 25th July 1881. It boasted 130 members and some of the companies are still involved with the London Chamber up to the present day. By 1892 there were over 3000 members
Today’s ICCI offers services such as advertising opportunities, discounted mailing lists, member-to-member marketing, business banking, translation service and sponsorship opportunities to name but a few options. Now covering all of London and including it's outer regions, the ICCI continues to be an influential organisation supporting large and small businesses alike. It’s nice to see one of London’s oldest institutions keeping bang up to date with technology by using SL!
