Fire up the Quattro Bolly! I'm off to New London...

ahhhh 1981..brings back such memories..Tom Baker's last appearance as the good Doctor..Charles & Di..Space Hoppers & Raleigh Choppers..Parkas..Raiders of the Lost Ark..3 channels on the telly..the Sinclair ZX81..the Atari games console & the wonderful Tennis game (hours of fun watching a white dot batted from side to side of the TV screen by two white lines which you controlled by Joysticks the size of a house brick..)

(sniff!) god, those were the good old days! :)

Hi Alex!

Thank you for your comment, you made me smile with your list of 1980's things! I called in to New London a little late, but had a brilliant time, hope you enjoyed it too if you did pop in!!

Don't was also the year that H2G2 - Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy first aired along with Danger mouse and MTV. On the downside the disease AIDS was identified and reggae king Bob Marley died of cancer aged 36, I well remember that as I was in the Caribbean at the time. The Chopper bicycle first made it's appearance in the early 70's and although it became an icon for the era it would be called 'unfit for purpose' today. The position of the 'Capri' style gear-stick was particularly hazardous and would definitely bring tears to your eyes in the event of an emergency stop. I have fond memories of a friends mother regularly riding one to the shops.

oh yes, the Capri could I forget? Had to perform an emergency stop once..nearly ended up singing soprano..still what did I care..because as Ed said, although a product of the 70's, the Chopper was the epitome of early 80's geek chic...I should know..mine was black with flame stripes down the side...
