SL London became Surf City on Saturday night when a beach party was held at the Underground Club. Gone was the high tech colour changing floor, replaced by sand, surf and seashells. Partygoers dressed in bikinis, flip flops and sunglasses and even SL London Head Greeter Clive Hissop became a surfer dude for the evening.
The party began at 2 pm slt when UGC DJ Genevieve Gagne, assisted by host TXBarbara Bailey, started off the marathon 4 hour event. DJ Gen kept everyone in the mood by playing such classics as Summer Holiday by Cliff Richard, the Macarena by Los Del Rio, Tarzan Boy by Baltimora and Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega. No beach party would be complete without the Beach Boys, and DJ Gen did not disappoint, playing many of their classic songs, including California Girls, God Only Knows, Good Vibrations and Kokomo. Gen also offered us a very nice tropical drink recipe, Put the Lime in the Coconut, by Harry Nilsson, although no one seemed too sure what that is all about. (By the way, the Muppets have done a version of this song, which somehow seems appropriate. You can see it on YouTube)
The club was packed, at one point there were 58 people in the sim. Throughout the evening there were trivia questions and a contest for best in beachwear. The contest was a hard fought battle, won by Avril Vintner.DJ Gen ended the evening at 6 pm slt, with Surfari’s Wipe Out. Congratulations go to Genevieve Gagne, TXBarbara Bailey and SL London Director Brie Janick who organized the event and was responsible for the decoration. All the hard work paid off. Simon Seurat commented that it was “one of the best nights ever at the UGC” and I am sure all who were there would agree.
