Hyde Park Bandstand

Hyde Park in SL is going through some changes, I know the builders are adding bits to SL London all the time and its great. I thought I would take a wander through the Park yesterday to see what I could find, and there in the distance I spotted a really lovely bandstand. The picture of the real life bandstand was next to it, as I guess it is still under construction, but it looks really good already.

The real Hyde Park Bandstand is in the South East corner of the park, and concerts are held there during the summer on Sunday afternoons. Hyde Park is actually owned by the Monarchy, and is one of the Royal Parks. In the beginning Hyde Park had been part of the Manor of Ebury, and it’s address was One Hide. The park, an area of some 350 acres, was used for deer hunting in those days. Henry VIII took possession of it in 1536 from the monks of Westminster Abbey. It was then opened to the public in 1637 by Charles I. In 1665 when the great plague hit London, people would set up camps in the park to isolate themselves from the disease.

There is a large lake called The Serpentine where you can go boating (opened by Queen Caroline in 1730). As well as the lake there are other facilities including tennis courts, horse riding, a gallery, a bowling green, snack bars and an education centre called ‘The Lookout’

In our own SL Hyde Park there is a welcome area for new people to teleport into, with information about Second Life and a Dr Who 'tardis' (he gets everywhere!!), well I suppose it is a teleport area! Before leaving for tea, I got on the bandstand with my guitar ready to play a few songs, but suddenly the park was deserted, I wonder why? Ah well, lets hope they get a proper band there to play for us, it’s a lovely place for a picnic.
